“Turn us again, O God, and cause thy face to shine; and we shall be saved” (Psalm 80:3).
This verse is a prayer, and the truth contained therein is at least threefold.
1. REPENTANCE IN PRAYER – “Turn us again, O God”
That is to say, “We have been doing evil, and now we desire to do good. We have been going the wrong way, and now we desire to go the right way.” Only the Lord can make this change in the heart of individuals, but He can do it and He is willing and ready to do it. Turn to Him and He will turn you in the right way.
2. REQUEST IN PRAYER – “Cause thy face to shine”
In other words, “Help us to get to the place in life where we are pleasing to You and can see the smile of Your approval. May our thoughts, our words, and our works be so in accord with Your will that we may know that all we do is pleasing in Your sight.” The Lord will smile upon us when we please Him in our lives.
3. RESULT IN PRAYER – “We shall be saved”
When we trust the Lord for full and complete salvation, He will save us from sin, failure, and ruin. To reject the Lord is fatal. When we trust in Him for salvation and serve Him in sincerity and truth, He will see to it that we are secure in this life and in the life to come. Praise His name!
