“But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold” (Job 23:10).
The following poem was written by Dr. Leslie Greening:
He Knows the Way That I Take (Job 23:10)
Suppose the Lord asked US to choose the path
That we wished to tread through life;
I guess that we would always choose a sunlit road
Far away from the sound of strife.
We would want no clouds to darken our way,
Nor a shade of anxious care;
But the balmy breeze of summer trees,
And the perfume of roses rare.
But HE has chosen a far better way;
The result of His wisdom sure:
Not long days of sunshine without a break,
But trials we have to endure!
Yet in those sorrows He always is there
Giving peace and joy so sweet;
The dear “Rose of Sharon” becomes so fair
That we long for His face to greet.
How glad I am that it is HIS own choice,
As He plans the way we should take;
And that we can leave our whole life to Him –
He never has made a mistake.
We, in our blindness, just never would choose
A pathway so dark and so rough;
But then we would never have found in HIM
“El-Shaddai,” the God Who’s ENOUGH!
(El-Shaddai = the Lord Almighty, the omnipotent, all-powerful One!)
As we enter the New Year of 2021, let us take great comfort in the fact that as Christians we have the Lord Jesus Christ, the Good Shepherd, Who died to save us and Who lives to guide us!
Martin Luther is quoted as saying, “I know not the way God leads me, but well do I know my Guide.” Remember this: “And the LORD shall guide thee continually…” (Isaiah 58:11a).
