“[A]nd his name shall be called Wonderful…” (Isaiah 9:6).
Among the many names in Scripture referring to the Lord Jesus Christ, certainly this name is cause for rejoicing. It would do all of us good to pause occasionally and concentrate on the many things God is in Himself and the things He has done and is doing for each and every one of us.
I’m sure that almost every child of God and church choir has sung songs like “Wonderful Grace of Jesus” and “His Name Is Wonderful.” These songs have a way of lifting our spirits out of the misery and despair that many Christians are experiencing and into a state of joy and peace.
Job 42:3 reveals the creation of all things and the knowledge of God that were too wonderful for Job to comprehend. Psalm 139:6 reminds us that David said the knowledge of God was something too wonderful to describe. Psalm 139:14 has encouraged many a soul that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made” by God. This verse along with Psalm 139:15-16 are great pro-life verses, and teach us that God saw our substance before we were ever completed in bodily form.
Isaiah 28:29 tells us that the Lord is “wonderful in counsel.” Again, Isaiah 9:6 gives Him the name of “Counsellor.” If you want knowledge you can go to college, but if you want wisdom, you have to go to God! He is wonderful in counsel!
The mercy and grace of God are wonderful, as we do not deserve His kindness toward us. Nothing we experience is more enjoyable than our salvation, purchased by His wonderful blood sacrifice. I know I need to praise our wonderful Lord more and complain less. How about you?
“Wonderful grace of Jesus, greater than all my sin;
How shall my tongue describe it, where shall its praise begin?
Taking away my burden, setting my spirit free;
And the wonderful grace of Jesus reaches me.”
