Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. ~ I John 3:2
The coming of our Lord Jesus Christ will bring to reality all that our hearts have longed for as believers. “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known” (I Corinthians 13:12). We can well afford to be despised and rejected now by this sinful world. Jesus even said it would be so. But at the day of His appearing, His glory will be fully revealed in us. For the Christian, the best is yet to come!
Andrew Bonar sent Charles Spurgeon a copy of his commentary on Leviticus. Spurgeon was so blessed by the exposition that he returned the book with this notation: “Dr. Bonar, please place herein your autograph and photograph.”
The book was soon returned with this message from the saintly Bonar: “Dear Spurgeon, Here is the book with my autograph and photograph. If you had been willing to wait a short season, you could have had a better likeness, for I shall be like Him. I shall see Him as He is.”
Behold, I show you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. ~ I Corinthians 15:51-52
“For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself. ~ Philippians 3:20-21
At that moment we shall be transformed into Christ’s image — “We shall be like Him.” What a glorious expectation for the children of God! For what more could we hope? Nothing is greater than to be like Jesus!
