But when the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law.—Galatians 4:4.
As you are well aware, the birth of a baby changes a lot of things. A baby can change things like your sleeping habits, grocery shopping, and making sure that your home is childproof. A baby changes lots of things! All parents know what I’m talking about.
Christmas is the celebration of the birth of a Baby Who changed everything! The birth of Christ changed history. Human history literally divides at His birth into B.C. (before Christ) and A.D. (Latin, Anno Domini, the year of our Lord). Some people are trying to change that now and get rid of Christ’s name by calling it B.C.E. (Before the Common Era) and A.C.E. (After the Common Era). Can you believe it? One thing nobody can deny is this: All of human history is divided by His entrance into the world.
H.G. Wells said, “I am a historian; I am not a believer. But I must confess as a historian that this penniless preacher from Nazareth is irrevocably the very center of history. Jesus Christ is easily the most dominant figure in all history.”
Remove every reference to Christ from the world’s greatest literature and the library will be almost empty. Do away with every statue and work of art that includes Christ and you don’t have much art left to appreciate. Close down all of the great institutions of learning originally founded by Christians to train preachers of the Gospel, universities like Yale, Harvard, Princeton, and Dartmouth, to name a few, and you eliminate some of our great seats of learning. It is ironic to me that many well-educated people who argue against Christ received their education from colleges or universities founded because of the very Christ they attempt to disprove! If Christ had never been born, human history would be hugely different…unbelievably different!
But Jesus Christ didn’t come merely to change human history; He came to change your history and my history! He came to change your relationship with God, as He did mine. I came to Jesus Christ when I was 20 years old. I had known of Him, but I did not know Him. You can know a lot about somebody, but never really know that person at all. Many people, some of whom would call themselves Christians, have a head knowledge of Christ, but have never received Him by faith as their personal Savior. As somebody once said, “Christ died; that’s history. Christ died for me; that’s salvation!” If you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you know exactly what I am talking about. If you don’t, well… it’s not too late to do something about it! Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and see for yourself how this Baby changes everything!
Second Corinthians 5:17 states, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
A little over two thousand years ago, God stepped into human history as a Baby, changing everything. He came into my life in 1972, changing everything. What difference has He made in your life? Thank God, that first Christmas changed everything!
