Finishing Well

It is hard to believe, but 2013 is almost over. Looking back over the year I am sure there are many joys, memories, and challenges we can reflect on. In II Timothy 4:7, the Apostle Paul writes, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” Paul is writing this at the end of his life reflecting on his work for the Lord. As we end this year and start another, the challenge for us is to Finish Well! Notice three things about this verse:

First, we have a Good Work to do. While this is a busy time of year, how many of us are actually accomplishing the Good Work. The Bible tells us in Ephesians 2:10, that we are God’s workmanship created unto Good Works, and we are challenged in Philippians 2:12, to work out our own salvation.

Secondly, we have an Eternal Legacy to leave. When reflecting on this past year, what kind of legacy has been made or left? What an awesome opportunity and yet challenge to know that when we are faithful in the Good Work, it makes a difference for all eternity! And while on earth, we get a glimpse of the Legacy we are leaving; Heaven will be the place where we will see the real impact we have made (I Corinthians 3:13-14).

Lastly, we have a Powerful Faith to live out! The Bible tells us that in the last days many will err from the faith and there will be a great falling away… but not for those of us who treasure our faith more than anything else. The Just will live by faith (Romans 1:17) and walk by faith (II Corinthians 5:7). Let’s not just talk about our faith, let us demonstrate our faith and really live it out (Romans 4:19-25).
