Elevators Can Let You Down!

“Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee” (Deuteronomy 31:6).

Have you ever heard someone say, “I just find it hard to believe in a God I cannot see”? Such folks do not realize the implications of what they are saying. These are the same people who often accept the daily weather forecast, believe the news stories, use bridges to drive over bodies of water, and trust their lives to a pilot they have never seen whenever they board an airplane, all without checking any of them to verify the substance of their trust. They simply take these things and more, every day of their lives, “by faith.”

We exercise faith every day when we rely on our car’s brakes, trust medical books and doctors, and depend on elevators. But elevators can let you down! People can have good intentions, but be wrong! Planes can crash! Brakes can fail! How much more then should we trust the sure and true promises of Almighty God? He will never let us down… so let us trust in Him!

The Bible tells us that “God…cannot lie” (Titus 1:2), and that “it was impossible for God to lie” (Hebrews 6:18). Lying, deception, bearing false witness, etc., is so repulsive to God, so disgusting to Him, so against His holy character that the Scriptures draw on the strength of the word “impossible” to substantiate the claim. He cannot, could not, and would not lie.

This means that, in a world where we are constantly let down, we can totally rely on, trust in, and cling to His promises. They are sure, steadfast, certain, indisputable, true, trustworthy, reliable, faithful, dependable, and “an anchor of the soul” (Hebrews 6:19). In other words, you can truly believe them, and because of that, you can throw yourself blindfolded and without reserve into His mighty hands. He will never fail you. He will never, ever let you down. Do you believe that?
