Three New Things

"But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I might win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by … Continue Reading ››

What Made the Wisemen Wise?

It’s been said that if the wise MEN had been wise WOMEN things would have been different at Christ’s birth.  They would have asked directions. They would have arrived on time, helped with the birth, and would have brought practical gifts.  We get a laugh out of that, but let’s consider the areas in which the wise men were wise. They were wise in their decision to search for Jesus.  These men were familiar with the world God had created.  They studied the stars and the … Continue Reading ››

Immanuel, God with Us

Count Zinzendorf, the founder of the Moravians, was converted in an art gallery in Dusseldorf while contemplating a painting of Christ on the cross which had this inscription, "I did this for thee. What hast thou done for me?" This picture had been painted by an artist 300 years before. When he had finished his first sketch of the face of the Redeemer, this artist called in his landlady's little daughter and asked her who she thought it was. The girl looked at it and said, … Continue Reading ››

Give Thanks Unto the Lord

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name  (Psalm 100:4).

Thanksgiving is such a wonderful season of the year! It's a time when we pause in our hectic lives to give thanks to God for His manifold blessings on us. As a believer, however, our giving of thanks should not be confined to the fourth Thursday of November. We should give thanks to the Lord each and every day we live! As I write this, my … Continue Reading ››

A Time for Thanksgiving

“I Thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ; That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge.”  I Corinthians 1:4-5 As we prepare for the Thanksgiving Holiday, I have a few thoughts I would like to share with you.  The first is to thank God for the grace He has personally given us.  When you look over your life, you can see time after time God extending … Continue Reading ››

Thank You, Veterans!

In the United States of America, Veterans Day is celebrated annually on November 11. This day is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice that ended World War I hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany in 1918. Veterans Day is intended to honor and thank all military personnel who served the United States in war or peacetime, particularly living veterans. It is a day marked by parades and church services, and in many places the American flag is hung at half mast. In … Continue Reading ››

How Will You Vote… for Missions This Year?

All of us are aware of just how crucial one vote can be. Consider, for example, that...

  • George W. Bush won the presidency in 2000 by only 537 votes in Florida - out of a total of 106 million votes cast nationwide!
  • Governor Bob McDonnell was elected Attorney General of Virginia in 2005 by only 323 votes out of almost 2 million cast. Had he lost that race, he would not be governor today.
  • John F. Kennedy won the presidency in 1960 by only 100,000 votes - … Continue Reading ››

Forty Days of Prayer

No matter where you go today, it seems people are asking the same question: "What can we do about the condition of our country?" Declining moral standards. The disintegration of the family. Redefining marriage. Economic turmoil. Seemingly endless bickering and posturing of our leaders. More than ever before, citizens are concerned about the welfare and future of our nation. As the national election draws nearer, we wonder, "What can I do? How can one person make a difference?" Here is the answer: you can pray! During … Continue Reading ››

Israel: The Object of God’s Special Attention

In case you haven't noticed it, there is a growing anti-Semitism in the world today. Israel has become the target of hostility and hatred, terrorism and suicide bombers. Thousands of Jews have been killed in cold blood. More attacks loom. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has stated that the solution to the Middle East crisis is to destroy Israel (Source: The Associated Press, 8/3/06). Even some of our own leaders have turned their backs on Israel. In light of this situation, what should be the response of Bible-believing … Continue Reading ››

In Honor of Grandparent’s Day

"Children's children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers" (Proverbs 17:6).
This Sunday is "Grandparent's Day." As a grandfather, I have been blessed with two grandsons and six granddaughters, so I guess you could say that I have eight "stars" in my crown! Being a grandparent is special, which you already know if you are one! Here is something I've often enjoyed reading, taken from papers written by a class of 8-year-olds. It is entitled, What is a Grandparent?
