A Great Reason to Boast

Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches: But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD (Jeremiah 9:23-24).
I was reading some time ago in a devotional by Dr. John MacArthur and came across … Continue Reading ››

The Faithfulness of God

"Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations" (Deuteronomy 7:9).
When we consider the faithfulness of God, we first of all must say that the Bible declares the fact that God is faithful. Here are just a few passages for your consideration:
"God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord" (I Corinthians 1:9). "There hath … Continue Reading ››

The Miracle of a Single Testimony

"So will not we go back from thee: quicken [revive] us, and we will call upon thy name" (Psalm 80:18).
Several times in Psalms, the writer uses the word "quicken," which is what "revival" really is (e.g., Psalm 71:20; 119:25, 37, 40, 88, 107, 149, 154, 156, 159; 143:11). "Quicken" here means "to live again, to revive, to renew, to refresh, to restore, to repair, to be made whole." He wasn't referring to the initial work of salvation, but of God doing a new or fresh … Continue Reading ››

Missions Conference Reminders

"Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip" (Hebrews 2:1).
We heard some wonderful messages and testimonies during our 47th Annual Faith Promise Missions Conference last week. Now the challenge comes to be more than hearers of the Word, but doers of the Word (James 1:22). That being said, what are some things we need to remember to do as a result of what we've heard?
  1. Be involved in the … Continue Reading ››

Be a Rope Holder

"I thank my God...For your fellowship [partnership] in the gospel from the first day until now" (Philippians 1:3a, 5).
William Carey, the great missionary to India, said to a body of people, "I will go down if you will hold the ropes." It's a great thought. It's a great mental picture. "I will go into the places where you will never go, but you must hold the ropes. I'll go down into the caves if you'll hold on. I'll go as long as you're here holding … Continue Reading ››

Following the Call of Jesus

"And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men. And they straightway left their nets, and followed him" (Matthew 4:19-20).
Peter and Andrew heard the call of Jesus as they were casting their nets into the Sea of Galilee, trying to catch some fish. The Bible says that they "straightway" left their nets to follow Jesus. The word "straightway" means "immediately" - an indication of how determined they were to follow Christ. The word "followed" carries the idea of being … Continue Reading ››

The Gospel in a Nutshell

One day a pastor was conducting an object lesson with some children. He held up a walnut shell and pulled a piece of paper out of it on which he had written this verse: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). The pastor held the piece of paper up and asked, "What is this?" One child replied, "Sir, that is the Gospel in a nutshell!" What … Continue Reading ››

The Mighty Tool of Prayer

The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (James 5:16b).
Tools! What a frustration it is to have a job to do and not to have the right tool to do it. The lack of a special screwdriver or socket wrench may mean the difference between a finished job and a failure. But having the right tool is only part of the equation. There is also the factor of knowing how to use it. The most sophisticated and productive tool is useless in the hands … Continue Reading ››

Revive Us, O Lord!

"Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?" (Psalm 85:6)
The following is taken from One Day at a Time, a 366-day devotional by William MacDonald, who went home to be with the Lord in December 2007. A BACKSLIDDEN CONDITION IS OFTEN LIKE A CANCER; we don't know we have it. We can grow spiritually cold so gradually that we don't realize how carnal we have actually become. Sometimes it takes a tragedy, a crisis, or the voice of some prophet of … Continue Reading ››

The Need for Church

"And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved" (Acts 2:44-47).
I hope you will enjoy this quotation … Continue Reading ››
