It’s Time to Wake Up

September 11, 2016
Bible Text: Romans 13:11-14 | Preacher: Dr. George A. Mulford | Series: Romans: The Gospel of God's Grace Today, our topic is not about physical sleep; it's about spiritual slumber, hearing God's alarm that it's time to wake up and know what time it is. The apostle Paul has been talking about our relationships... to God, to ourselves, to each other, to our enemies, to government, and then the overarching principle, to everybody. But in our passage today, there's an urgency or a sense of haste to do all of this. Paul is telling us that the responsibilities mentioned here are not to be put off for another day but are to be carried out faithfully as we wait for our Lord.
Bible Text: Colossians 1:9-12 | Preacher: Dr. George A. Mulford | Series: Colossians: Complete in Christ Our text in Colossians tonight is brief, only 99 words in the King James Version, but the number of ideas crammed into this brief passage is amazing. It is one of Paul's prison letters, and if you've ever studied his other prison letters, you'll notice that his prayers are never for himself but for others. His prayers also are not for material things but focus instead on spiritual blessings. This passage touches on a wide range of subjects, including understanding and doing the will of God, living a life that is pleasing to God, being productive as a believer, growing in spiritual maturity, being patient and consistent in our Christian walk, being joyful, thankful, and more. It's amazing what Paul has packed into 99 words here.  Let's look at it.
