Mulford | Series: Romans: The Gospel of God's Grace Even just 75 years ago, talking about the nation of Israel would have made no sense to anyone because that nation did not exist. However, in 1948, the nation of Israel was established, and this was in fulfillment of Scripture. What some people thought impossible and unbelievable took place then. Since then, God has been planting the Jews back in their own land never to be uprooted again. God is doing something in Israel and we need to pay attention to it. As we see in our text today, the apostle Paul has been appointed by God to help Israel be jealous to gain God's favor again. So, today, I want us to examine what this passage is talking about.

Some of those promises were given to specific groups or specific individuals, but in Romans 8:28, there is a promise that every believer who loves Jesus Christ can claim with confidence. Here is a promise that God, in His providence, will orchestrate every event in our lives, even suffering, even temptation, even failure in order to accomplish both our temporal and our eternal benefits. The late great preacher Dr. R.A. Torrey said that Romans 8:28 is "a soft pillow for tired hearts," and it is certainly one of God's greatest promises. This morning, we will look at three things about this great promise.
