At this time of year, everybody is inundated with advertising to make a "new you," but if you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? God has…
Bible Text: Romans 13:11-14 | Preacher: Dr. George A. Mulford | Series: Romans: The Gospel of God's Grace Today, our topic is not about physical sleep; it's about spiritual slumber, hearing God's alarm that it's time to wake up and know what time it is. The apostle Paul has been talking about our relationships... to God, to ourselves, to each other, to our enemies, to government, and then the overarching principle, to everybody. But in our passage today, there's an urgency or a sense of haste to do all of this. Paul is telling us that the responsibilities mentioned here are not to be put off for another day but are to be carried out faithfully as we wait for our Lord.
Bible Text: Philippians 2:1-11 | Preacher: Michael Portwood In general, Christians have seemingly forgotten the concept of humility. I know there are some who are genuinely humble, but overall, it seems we are forgetting to think of ourselves as God sees us. We live in a society obsessed with three things: pleasure, convenience, and instant gratification. All three revolve around SELF. This evening, we are looking at what a Christ-like view of self is in light of God and in light of other people.
Bible Text: Romans 8:5-11 | Preacher: Dr. George A. Mulford | Series: Romans: The Gospel of God's Grace If you could think of the Bible as a mountain range, then the book of Romans would be the Himalayas and Chapter 8 would be Mount Everest, towering over the rest of Scripture, because this chapter gives us the key to living a victorious Christian life. In the first seven chapters of Romans, the Holy Spirit is mentioned only once (Romans 1:4), but in Chapter 8, the Holy Spirit is referred to 19 times. In our text today, Paul explains how our mindset determines our lifestyle, and the key concepts in this chapter are "Two Kinds and Two Minds," two kinds of people and two different minds. So, if you are struggling in your Christian walk, I challenge you to read Romans Chapter 8 every morning for one month, and at the end of 30 days, see how it has made a difference in your life.
Bible Text: Romans 7:14-25 | Preacher: Dr. George A. Mulford | Series: Romans: The Gospel of God's Grace I've been the pastor here for almost 25 years, but there's one member of this church who has given me more trouble than anybody else. I stay angry at him most of the time, and he just makes me miserable. So this morning I want to identify him and ask him to stand up... but he's already standing because I'm talking about myself! While I do want to be a great person and a great pastor, sometimes my performance doesn't match my desire. You see, I've got a sin nature that I still struggle with even though I'm a Christian. If you do not, then maybe you've got a secret that the apostle Paul and I have not learned. Our passage today gives us the portrait of a maturing Christian, and if we are honest, I think most of us would say we can identify with everything Paul says here in these verses.
